City commences with resurfacing of St George’s Street, Simon’s Town

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate will be resurfacing St George’s Street in Simon’s Town from Court Road to Flora Steps. The City wants to thank all road users and the businesses in the Simon’s Town area for their patience and support while the necessary roadworks are under way. The project will commence this week and is scheduled to be completed during June 2023, weather permitting.
The project team will commence with initial kerb repair works over the next two weeks which will have minimal impact on traffic, however, the actual resurfacing of the road should commence mid-May 2023. The City intends to do the resurfacing work on weekdays between 09:00 and 15:30 to avoid peak traffic times, and limit the impact on road users.
Commuters should note that the east/southbound traffic will be accommodated on St George’s Street, and west/northbound traffic will be detoured on Runciman Drive while the resurfacing work is under way.
St George’s Street in Simon’s Town meanders through the beautiful town with various small businesses located along it. We need to ensure that this key road in Simon’s Town is maintained and remains in a good condition all year round. We ask that commuters, residents and surrounding businesses remain patient while the work is under way. We will try our best to complete the project as soon as possible to limit the inconvenience,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The roadworks along St George’s Street entails the following:
• Installation of sections of kerb and channel
• Removing the existing road surface and replacing this with hot-mix asphalt
• Reinstating and amending the road markings
